- Develop and Manage the Library: Promote the library’s role in supporting education while engaging in diversity and equality issues. Collaborate with teaching staff to plan and deliver skills that enable students to effectively utilise library resources and foster a love for reading.
- Support Transitions and Learning: Facilitate smooth transitions between key stages by developing coherent library skills. Understand the diverse needs of all students, including those with special educational needs, EAL, or disabilities, and apply tailored teaching methods to support them.
- Library Resources Management: Select, maintain, and withdraw library materials while ensuring balance across subjects and ability levels. Organise, catalogue, and classify electronic and print-based resources efficiently. Prepare budgets and source external support for library services.
- Engagement and Training: Train and supervise staff, parents, volunteers, and student librarians. Use ICT tools to enhance the library’s functionality and create an engaging, accessible environment for all. Inform stakeholders of library needs and developments.
- Fostering Positive Relationships: Treat students with dignity and build respectful relationships while maintaining professional boundaries. Collaborate with learners, parents, and staff to enhance student outcomes and promote the school’s values.
Teaching Responsibilities
- Conduct library sessions and after-school clubs. Provide classroom cover for absent teachers as required.
Miscellaneous
- Model professionalism, set a positive example for the school community, and participate in school events and whole-school activities as needed.
This role supports learning by managing a vibrant library, fostering collaboration, and embedding the school’s values into all aspects of the service.
